Men's and Women's Swim Squads Drop Contests To UC Santa Barbara

STOCKTON, Calif. – The Pacific men's swim team (3-5) finished the dual meet season at home on Saturday, dropping a 193-68 decision to UC Santa Barbara (5-0). The women's squad (4-6), which will return home next week to host UC Davis, lost a 183-76 contest to the Gauchos (4-2) on Saturday.

In the men's competition, senior Dylan Parente was the lone event winner for the Tigers, capturing first in the 100 free with a time of 45.02. Junior Alex Kurotori took second in the 200 back; sophomore Mitchell Hopper was second in the 100 fly; and junior Aiden Scott finished second in the 200 IM. The 200 free relay of Parente, Hopper, Franklin Fitzpatrick and Kutorori finished the meet with a strong race, finishing second, falling by just .21 to the top Gaucho relay.

In the women's competition, freshman Diana Chan was a double winner, capturing the 100 back in 57.86 and then the 500 free in 5:03.68. Sophomore Paige Sondgeroth won the 100 free in 51.42 and was second in the 100 breast. Sophomore Kelly Kermoian was second in the 200 back, and junior Caitlin Tan was second in the 100 fly.

"Santa Barbara is fast, and they have depth," said Head Coach Katelyne Herrington after the competition. "They swam well today and were tough to chase down, but we managed to pull out some big swims, especially on the women's side, winning three events, plus one on the men's side. Those wins were huge for our team as we prepare for MPSF Championships."

As the final combined dual meet of the season, the seniors from both the men's and women's teams were honored. The lone senior on the women's team is Jessica Clark. The men's team honored six seniors including Nicholas Cisco, Franklin Fitzpatrick, Richard Lewis, Christian Schroeder, Jonathan Tan and Nalex Young.

The Tiger women's team returns to Chris Kjeldsen Pool next Saturday, Jan. 28, for a women's-only meet against UC Davis. Both the men's and women's teams will compete in the UC Santa Barbara Invitational on February 3-4 as the final preparation for the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships, which will be contested February 15-18 at the Marquerite Aquatics Center in Mission Viejo, Calif.
