STOCKTON, Calif. – Coming off two straight home wins, the Pacific women's basketball team (7-9, 2-3) is back on the road, traveling to San Francisco (12-5, 2-3) on Thursday, Jan. 12 and Santa Clara (10-8, 1-4) on Saturday, Jan. 14.
Senior
Sam Ashby and freshman
Sydney Ward led the Tigers to two wins last week. Ashby averaged 17.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 4.0 assists per game. Ward averaged 10.0 points, 7.5 rebounds and 1.5 blocks while recording her first double-double against Pepperdine.
Junior
Liz Smith leads the team in multiple categories, including scoring per game (13.3), threes made (28) and three-point percentage (.452). Sophomore
Anaya James leads the conference in assists per game at 5.6 and is third in the conference in total assists (79) despite having played four fewer games than the conference leader. Sophomore
Elizabeth Elliott is pacing the team in rebounding, grabbing 6.4 boards a game.
On Thursday it will be a matchup of two teams tied for fourth in the WCC. San Francisco's two conference wins came against Pepperdine and Santa Clara. The Dons are coming off a two-loss weekend against #20 Gonzaga and Portland, the only two teams not to lose to a WCC opponent this season. Before the past weekend, the Dons had won 10 of their past 11 games. Ioanna Krimili leads the team and is second in the WCC in scoring, averaging 16.8 points per game.
Santa Clara has picked up one win against LMU but has dropped games against Pepperdine, San Francisco, Portland and Gonzaga. Tess Heal leads the team in scoring at 16.5 points per game, good for third in the WCC. Heal has been named the UCU WCC Freshman of the Week six times this season, the most in the conference. The Tigers and Broncos faced off three times last season, with each team taking the home match. The two squads saw each other again in the WCC Tournament, a 93-69 win for the Broncos.
