STOCKTON, Calif. – Pacific men's water polo takes home a Golden Coast Conference Player of the Week award for the second time in only three weeks of competition. Sophomore
Mihailo Vukazic claims the title for Week 3.
"Mihailo came here as a fantastic talent, but he needed to make some changes to his game to adapt his play to NCAA. He worked hard, he iterated, and what we have seen so far this year is a much more effective player," said Head Coach
James Graham. "I'm excited to see what he can do; I think the sky is the limit for Mihailo."
Vukazic led Pacific with 11 goals and 12 assists in five wins last weekend, including a 15-13 win over then #3 USC at home on Friday. He had five points to start the week against the Trojans, scoring four goals with an assist. He had another four-goal game against #10 San Jose State at the Aggie Invitational. The Tigers also earned wins against #16 California Baptist, #14 Harvard and Occidental.
Leading the Tigers and the GCC with 36 points, Vukazic has 22 goals and 14 counted assists, ranking him fourth and third, respectively, in the GCC. He's the team's priority penalty-shot taker.
The Tigers lead the league in scoring with five players in the top-six of the GCC rankings.
Matthew Hosmer leads the league with 29 goals, followed by
Bogdan Djerkovic with 26 and
Reuel D'Souza with 23.
Jeremie Cote is sixth in the GCC with 20.
Pacific and Vukazic will roll into the MPSF Invitational ranked fourth in the nation, moving up a spot after defeating then #3 USC at home last weekend. The Tigers are riding a five-game winning streak and are 10-1 on the season as they open the MPSF Invite against #14 UC San Diego on Friday and will face either #3 Stanford or #10 LMU in the first game on Saturday.
