Riley and Benson-Oladeinbo Score in Tigers Loss

LAS VEGAS, Nev. - The Pacific men's soccer team (1-5-1) fell to UNLV (1-3-2) 3-2 in their fourth straight road game.

Cooper Riley and Emmanuel Benson-Oladeinbo each scored for the Tigers. Samuel Villalta had an assist for the Tigers. Villalta, Derick Roque and Samuel Saiz Herraiz all had two shots. The Tigers outshot the Rebels 12-9. Seven Tigers put shots on goal. Benson-Oladeinbo made his debut for Pacific.

It was back and forth in the first half, with both teams taking multiple shots on goal. Each team had chances to score early, but the goalkeepers kept the game scoreless. UNLV went up early off a penalty kick in the 37th minute.

The Tigers responded quickly in the second half, as Riley scored off a pass from Villalta to tie the game at one in the 54th minute. As the action ramped up, the two teams battled to find the go-ahead goal. The Rebels scored in the 66th minute and the 80th minute to take a two-goal lead. Benson-Oladeinbo cut the deficit to one in the 84th minute. The Tigers fired three more shots before the end of the game but could not find the net to even the game at three.

"Right now we are who we are," said Head Coach Adam Reeves. "A team a bit down on confidence because of some controllable and uncontrollable factors and not tough enough. We have to take responsibility for the controllable and be more difficult to play against defensively. We conceded three goals tonight in very similar fashion and that has been a bit of our Achilles heel throughout the season. It starts with the staff and ultimately trickles down to the players on the field. I can assure you we will fix our short comings, change a bit of who we are stylistically, and come out better for it."

The Tigers return home on Tuesday, Sept. 20, as they take on UC Davis. Kick-off will be at 7 p.m.
