RENO, Nev. - The Pacific women's soccer team (4-0-5) continued its streak of non-conference domination with a 2-1 win over Nevada (1-4-2).
Pacific set a season-high with 26 shots, putting nine on goal. Jenae Packard scored her third goal of the season, and Ryanne Molenaar recorded her first goal of the season. Packard and Molenaar each had an assist. Packard led the team with six shots, two being on goal. Jaida Nyby fired five shots, putting two on goal. The Tiger's defense held Nevada to two shots on goal and one corner kick.
A game that had been moved up to avoid poor air quality still provided fireworks. The Tigers came out firing, putting two shots on goal in the first 20 minutes. The rest of the first half was a midfield battle as the two teams looked to put the first goal on the board.
The second half was a story of seven minutes. The build-up for the Tigers was well rewarded, as four shots in two minutes ended in a Molenaar goal to put the Tigers up. Just over a minute later, Packard received a Molenaar pass, fired the ball past the keeper, and gave the Tigers a two-goal lead. Exactly four minutes later, Nevada added a goal to cut the lead to one, but the Tigers continued to hold possession and finish with a win.
"First off, we want to thank both our admin and UNR's admin for making sure this match happened today," said Co-Head Coaches Danesha Adams and J.J. Wozniak. "We knew it was going to be a tough road match, which it was, and we wish their staff and players all the best for the rest of the season. We felt good about the performance today, from several individuals and collectively as a team. We were on the ball a lot, we created several big moments to score, and in the end, we scored two good goals and earned a big road win! Time to rest up, recover, and look to finish out the weekend on Sunday with another big win at UC Santa Barbara!"
The Tigers are back on the road Sunday, traveling to Santa Barbara to take on UCSB. Kick-off is at noon.
