HUNTINGTON, WVA. – The Pacific men's soccer team (1-4-1) took on their second straight opponent in #8 Marshall (4-1). The Herd proved their ranking with a 7-1 victory.
The two teams were firing on all cylinders early, as the Herd scored in the 3rd minute to take the lead. Cooper Riley immediately responded for the Tigers as he grabbed the ball outside the box and fired just inside the right post to even the game at one.
Marshall responded quickly and decisively, scoring four more times in the half to take a 5-1 lead into the half.
Marshall scored three more times in the second half and held the Tigers without a shot.
Riley had both shots on goal for the Tigers. Emory Rapaport, Samuel Saiz Herraiz and Jose Maria Barrera all had one shot for Pacific.
"Bad scheduling by the coach," said Head Coach Adam Reeves. "Playing two tough opponents within 36 hours was always going to be tough, and compound that with a full list of injuries to Yazid, Derick, Emory, Mylo and Ryan, the task became exponentially more difficult. Full credit to Marshall. They are as talented a team as I've played against. We would have liked to have had a full roster to match up, but that's the season thus far."
The Tigers head to UNLV on Thursday for their fourth straight road match.
