FRESNO, Calif. -- The Pacific softball team dropped a non-conference contest at Fresno State, 5-2, Wednesday evening at the Margie Wright Diamond.
Â
The Tigers (8-21) held an early advantage, scoring two runs in the top of the second inning to quickly take a 2-0 lead. After
Delaney Scully and
Nina Davis reached on back-to-back singles, a groundball off the bat of
Kyla Eck slipped through the legs of Alana Cobb-Adams at second base, scoring both Scully and Davis.
Â
The Bulldogs (6-21) responded with five unanswered runs to solidify the win and kept the Tigers off the board for the remainder of the game.
Â
Bethany Hammer earned the start in the circle for the Tigers, her seventh of the season. Hammer pitched well in her 18th appearance, pitching two innings, and allowed two runs on five hits. After tallying two strikeouts against the Bulldogs, the redshirt senior from Placerville, Calif., surpassed her season-high in strikeouts from the 2021 season as she now has 38 this season. Hammer is one strikeout shy of tying her career-high of 39 strikeouts set in 2018.
Â
"We need to score more runs, but we competed well at the plate," Head Coach
Brian Kolze stated. "We didn't throw any at-bats away, which was good … hopefully, we can continue to grow after competing in this game."
Â
Pacific returns to action on Tuesday, March 29, as the Tigers face off against UC Davis in a non-conference matchup at Bill Simoni Field.
