Softball Falls in Extra-Inning Battle to UC Davis

STOCKTON, Calif. – Reagan Hamilton and Rian Dirmeyer recorded home runs as the Pacific softball team fell to UC Davis, 6-3, in nine innings Tuesday evening at Bill Simoni Field.

Trailing 1-0 in the fourth inning, Hamilton put the Tigers (8-22) ahead for the first time as she powered a two-run home run over the left-field fence to give the Tigers a 2-1 lead. Hamilton, who has three home runs in the past three games, tallied her fourth home run of the season and reached 20 RBI for the first time in her career as she leads the team in that category.

The Aggies (14-16) bounced back and reclaimed the lead shortly after, tallying two runs in the top of the fifth inning to regain the lead at 3-2.

The Tigers quickly showed resiliency as Dirmeyer led off the sixth inning with a solo home run over the center-field fence, tying the game at three. Leading the team in home runs with five, Dirmeyer has become one of the primary offensive weapons for the Tigers as she leads the team with a .571 slugging percentage and has gained 52 total bases throughout the season.

With the game going into extra innings, the Aggies plated three runs in the top half of the ninth inning to solidify the nearly three-hour contest. The Tigers have competed in four extra-inning games through 30 games this season, matching the season total played during the 2021 campaign.

Amiyah Aponte entered the circle in the fifth inning in relief of starting pitcher Vanessa Strong and pitched four solid innings. In her ninth relief appearance this season, Aponte recorded a career-high eight strikeouts while only allowing three hits. The sophomore from Riverside, Calif., has accumulated 20 strikeouts this season, matching her total from last season and is tied with Avery Croxall for third-most on the team.

"We had our opportunities," Head Coach Brian Kolze stated after the game. "We must find a way to put more balls in play with runners in scoring position. "The effort was there, but we just didn't execute a couple of times, and it extended the game."

Pacific returns to action on Saturday, April 2, as the Tigers face off against Northern Colorado in a doubleheader at Bill Simoni Field.
