LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- The Pacific men's basketball team wraps up the 2021-22 regular season as the Tigers travel to take on Loyola Marymount on Saturday, Feb. 26 at the Gersten Pavilion.
Last Thursday, Alphonso Anderson scored a career-high 26 points as the Tigers faced off against Portland at the Alex G. Spanos Center. Anderson, who competed in his final competition at the home for the Tigers, shot 68.7 percent (11-for-16) from the floor and connected on all four of his free-throw attempts. This season, the senior from Tacoma, Wash., excelled during home contests, leading the team in scoring, averaging 12.7 points per game.
Nick Blake was a force for the Tigers in the first half against the Pilots, scoring 14 points to lead all scorers. Blake was nearly perfect from the field, shooting 80 percent (four-for-five) from the floor and connecting all three of his attempts beyond the three-point line. The sophomore from Las Vegas, Nev., failed to score in the second half but was a significant piece to the Tigers' defensive efforts throughout the entire game.
Loyola Marymount comes into the final game of the regular season on a 10-game losing streak, dating back to January 22. Eli Scott leads the way for the Lions this season, leading the team in scoring, rebounding, and minutes played. Scott scored 17 points against the Tigers in a 69-68 loss on February 19, and averages 16.9 points per game and tallies 6.6 rebounds. The senior from Chino Hills, Calif., also leads the team in offensive rebounds by a hefty margin, recording 62 while adding 171 total rebounds.
Despite the Lions holding an edge in the all-time series, 33-28, the Tigers have won four of the past five meetings. In the last four victories, the Tigers averaged 62.3 points per game while holding the Lions to just 55. The Tigers have 12 wins over the Lions in Los Angeles, most recently a 60-53 win at the Gersten Pavilion on February 27, 2020.
