RIVERSIDE, Calif. -- Competing on the final day of the Lynn Russell Miller Classic, the Pacific softball team dropped two games to Utah Valley and UC Riverside Sunday afternoon at the Amy S. Harrison Field.
Utah Valley 3, Pacific 2
After three scoreless innings to begin the game, the Tigers (1-3) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top half of the fourth inning. Carly Lucchetti began the inning with a lead-off single to left field and stole second base shortly after. After a Rian Dirmeyer base hit, Reagan Hamilton brought home the first run as she tallied an RBI sacrifice bunt to drive in Lucchetti with runners on the corners. A second run scored during the inning as Dirmeyer scored on an error committed by the Wolverines (2-3) in the infield.
The Wolverines came charging back, scoring a run in the bottom half of the fifth inning to cut the deficit to 2-1. The Wolverines eventually earned the win, scoring two runs in the bottom half of the seventh inning to earn the 3-2 victory.
UC Riverside 8, Pacific 3
Trailing the Highlanders (2-2), 1-0 after four innings of play, the Tigers answered with a three-run fifth inning. In the top half of the inning, Natalie Linker began the rally, tallying an infield single, and then advanced on a wild pitch. With two runners in scoring position and two outs, Rian Dirmeyer reached on an error as Linker and Emily Budelli scored to give the Tigers a 2-1 lead. A third run was recorded as Dirmeyer later scored on a Nina Davis RBI single to right field.
Avery Croxall earned the start in the circle for the Tigers as she had a solid outing pitching four innings, giving up one run on two hits.
The Highlanders regained the lead in the bottom half of the sixth inning, scoring seven runs to pull away.
Pacific returns to action February 19 and 20, as the Tigers travel to take on CSU Bakersfield in a three-game series at the Roadrunner Softball Complex.
