Comeback Falls Short as Softball Falls at CSU Bakersfield

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- The Pacific softball team rallied, but came up short, falling to CSU Bakersfield 4-3 Saturday morning at the Roadrunner Softball Complex.

Making her first appearance for the Tigers (1-5), Hannah Glad earned her first career start in the circle, pitching four solid innings, giving up just two earned runs, and recording a strikeout.

Pacific fell behind early as the Roadrunners (1-5) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom half of the first inning. After a triple kicked off the inning, the Roadrunners took the first lead on a Cydney Curran RBI base hit. Curran would later score on a Cieana Curran groundout, giving the Roadrunners a two-run advantage.

The Tigers cut into the deficit in the top half of the third inning as Marissa Fabian scored on a Talissa Montez flyout, cutting the Roadrunners lead to 2-1. Fabian began the inning with a lead-off single and advanced to third shortly after on a Natalie Linker sacrifice bunt before crossing the plate for the first time this season during the next at-bat.

Trailing 3-1 heading into the seventh inning, the Tigers rallied and tied the game at three. Nina Davis began the inning with a lead-off walk and immediately came out as Bethany Hammer replaced her as a pinch-runner. During the next at-bat, Reagan Hamilton cut the deficit to one, 3-2, as she ripped a double to center field, allowing Hammer to score from first base. The Tigers' third run was scored later in the inning as Hamilton plated the game-tying run on a Vanessa Strong sacrifice flyout.

The Roadrunners went on to earn the game-winning run in the bottom half of the seventh inning.

"Tough loss today," Head Coach Brian Kolze stated after the game. "We did a great job fighting back to tie the game, but we didn't do enough leading up to the end." "We just need to estimate some little mistakes that keep costing us … Once we do that, we will give ourselves some margin of error, and we will become more successful in the win column."

Pacific returns to action on Sunday, Feb. 20, as the Tigers face-off against CSU Bakersfield in a doubleheader at the Roadrunner Softball Complex beginning at 11 a.m.
