STOCKTON, Calif. – The Pacific men's basketball team wraps up its final homestand of the non-conference slate as it hosts Cal State East Bay on Sunday, Dec. 11, Stanislaus State on Tuesday, Dec. 13, and San Jose State on Saturday, Dec. 17.
The Tigers (4-7) are coming off an impressive 76-72 win over Fresno State last Saturday as
Jordan Ivy-Curry led the team offensively, tallying a game-high 16 points. Scoring in double figures for the seventh time this season, Ivy-Curry registered a 45.5 percent (five-for-11) shooting percentage while connecting on three of his four free-throw attempts. Coming off the bench for the fourth-straight game, the sophomore from La Marque, Texas, led a bench unit that outscored the Bulldogs 37-17.
Luke Avdalovic also scored in double figures for the Tigers, scoring 15 points, while leading the team in minutes played with 31. Shooting well from beyond the arc through 11 games this season, Avdalovic ranks first in the West Coast Conference in three-point percentage, shooting the ball from beyond the arc at a 58.5 percent clip.
Pacific faces off against Cal State East Bay to begin the week, its first contest against a Division II opponent this season. After its contest this past Saturday against Fresno State, Pacific will play on consecutive days since competing against Northern Colorado on November 10, 2021, and Hawaii Hilo on November 11, 2021, to open the 2021-22 season at the Outrigger Resorts Rainbow Classic.
The Pioneers (3-6) are coming off an 84-71 loss against Cal Poly Humboldt at home, dropping their second-straight contest.
Grady Lewis leads the Pioneers in scoring, averaging 18 points per game while ranking sixth in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA). Lewis, shooting 63.2 percent from the field through nine games this season, also performs well on the defensive side of the ball, averaging 6.8 rebounds per game and has totaled seven steals.
The Tigers are 14-2 all-time against the Pioneers and haven't lost since January 25, 1963. The last time the two programs competed against each other was on Nov. 28, 1987, when the Tigers earned an 82-66 win at the Alex G. Spanos Center.
Taking on its second-straight Division II school, Pacific faces off against Stanislaus State in a Tuesday-night contest. Coming off a 79-68 loss at Cal Poly Humboldt, the Warriors (3-8) have three players averaging in doubles figures through 11 games.
Kobe Ordonio leads the team in scoring, averaging 15.4 points per game, while Marlon Short (13.4 points per game), and Tony Singleton (12.8 points per game) have helped propel the Warriors offensively this season.
The Tigers have never lost to the Warriors, earning eight wins since the first-ever meeting on November 26, 1996. With every game of the series being played at the Alex G. Spanos Center, the Tigers earned a 65-46 win over the Warriors last season.
Pacific wraps up its final home non-conference game of the season, facing off against San Jose State. The Spartans (8-3) most recently defeated Santa Clara, 75-64, on the road last Saturday. Omari Moore tallied 24 points, and Sage Tolbert III recorded a double-double as the Spartans used a second-half surge to down the Broncos.
Moore and Tolbert III lead ranks first and second on the team in scoring, tallying 14.5 and 11 points per game, respectively. Tolbert III is the team's leading rebounder, collecting 8.7 rebounds per game, ranking second in the Mountain West Conference.
Meeting for the 156th time in program history, the Tigers hold an 82-74 edge all-time over the Spartans. In the past 10 meetings, the Tigers have gone 8-3, including a six-game winning streak from December 1, 2001, until February 23, 2008. The largest margin of victory for the Tigers during the 100-year history between the two programs was on February 11, 1967, when the Tigers defeated the Spartans 107-60.
Last season, the Tigers dropped a 78-66 decision to the Spartans on the road at the Provident Credit Union Event Center.
