STOCKTON, Calif. – The Pacific men's basketball team fell to Cal Poly, 62-58, in a non-conference game Monday evening at the Alex G. Spanos Center.
"I thought our rhythm was off tonight, Head Coach
Leonard Perry said. "We didn't close this team out the way we should have … you can't win games if you can't close teams out."
The Tigers (2-5) shot 41.7 percent (20-for-48) from the floor during the contest while also connecting on 40 percent (eight-for-20) of their three-point attempts.
Donovan Williams and
Luke Avdalovic led the team with 13 points apiece, while
Tyler Beard added 11 for the Tigers. Avdalovic, who is tied for third in the country in three-point shooting percentage, knocked down three of his five attempts from distance. The Folsom, Calif. senior was also the lone team member to go perfect at the free-throw line, connecting on all four attempts.
Controlling the pace of play throughout the first 20 minutes of play, the Tigers pushed their largest lead to 11, 32-21, at the 1:43 mark of the first half. Leading by nine at the halftime break, the Tigers continued to dominate in the second half's early stages.
With the Tigers' lead extended to 37-23 at the 16:44 mark of the second half, the Mustangs (3-3) used a 31-15 run to battle back and take the lead, 54-52, with two minutes left on the clock.
The Mustangs held on late, connecting on four crucial free throws to secure the victory.
Pacific returns to action at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 1, as the Tigers travel to take on UC Davis at the University Credit Union Pavilion.
