STOCKTON, Calif. – The Pacific men's basketball team dropped its first game of the California Thanksgiving Jam Tuesday evening, falling to Mount St. Mary's, 69-65, at the Alex G. Spanos Center.
"We had multiple opportunities to win that game, but we couldn't get timely stops defensively," Head Coach
Leonard Perry said after the game. "I thought it affected us offensively, and we couldn't move the ball."
Three team members scored in double figures for the Tigers (2-3), with
Tyler Beard leading the way with 16 points. Scoring in double figures for the second straight game, Beard shot a team-best 72.7 percent (eight-for-11) from the floor in 32 minutes. The sophomore from Chicago, Ill., also dished out a team-high two assists and collected five rebounds.
Donovan Williams recorded his first career double-double in the contest, tallying 12 points and 10 rebounds. Registering double-digit rebounds for the first time in his career, Williams ranks second on the team in total rebounds with 22.
Trailing 37-33 at the halftime break, the Mountaineers (3-3) began to pull away in the second half and extended the lead to double-digits, 56-45, at the 11:31 mark of the half. The Tigers, unable to close the deficit until late in the game, used an 8-0 run to cut the lead to three in the game's final two minutes. The Mountaineers, however, held on and secured the four-point win.
Pacific returns to action at 6 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 25, as the Tigers close out the California Thanksgiving Jam with a non-conference matchup against Idaho.
