ST. GEORGE, Utah - The Pacific men's and women's swim teams concluded the final day of the Utah Tech Trailblazer Invitational.
The men's team finished the tournament fourth out of five teams with a final score of 414 points, while the women's team was crowned eighth out of 11 competing teams with a final score of 77.
"Out of the 19 swims we had tonight, 17 swims were faster than this morning's prelim swims," said Head Coach Katelyne Herrington. "I am proud of this team for stepping up as we faced our toughest session. Everyone is tired at this point in the weekend, so it shows who we are as a team."
On the men's side, the Tigers had notable appearances throughout the day, including freshman Gabe Windmiller swimming to a third-place finish in the 1650 free.
In the 200 back, junior Aidan Scott took ninth, freshman Jack Springer took 10th, and junior Alex Kurotori took 11th.
Junior Aidan Vollmar and freshman Bridger Sink came back-to-back to finish 11th and 12th in the 200 breast, and sophomore Mitchell Hopper finished 10th in the 100 free.
On the women's side, sophomore Alexia Ferguson achieved 15th out of 32 swimmers in the 100 free, and sophomore Paige Sondgeroth placed 16th out of 32 swimmers in the 200 breast.
Both teams represented the 400 free relay tremendously well.
Kurotori, Vollmar, Hopper and sophomore Leland Baltazar came in fourth out of 11 groups. Sondgeroth, Ferguson, sophomore Jaydn Phillips and sophomore Ellie Macphail held on to an impressive eighth-place finish out of 27 groups.
"As we walk away from our mid-season meet, I feel good about where we are at. We are learning to swim smarter, which shows in our evening swims," said Herrington. "We need to lock in those adjustments during prelims to get in better scoring positions going into the finals."
The Pacific men's and women's teams will be back in action at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 3, at California Baptist.
