Men's Basketball Takes on Cal State Fullerton in Home Opener

STOCKTON, Calif. – The Pacific men's basketball team returns home for the first time this season, facing off against Cal State Fullerton on Friday, Nov. 18, at the Alex G. Spanos Center.

Pacific is coming off two victories while on its recent road trip to North Dakota, defeating North Dakota State and North Dakota.

Through the first three games this season, the Tigers (2-1) are averaging 87.3 points per game while holding their opponents to 79.0. Four players are averaging in double figures, with Jordan Ivy-Curry leading the team in scoring with 18.3 points per game. Donovan Williams (12.7 points per game), Luke Avdalovic (11.0 points per game), and Tyler Beard (10.0 points per game) have also lifted the team offensively.

In the victory over North Dakota, Avdalovic led Pacific in scoring with a season-high 19 points. Avdalovic had his best shooting performance in a game through 28 career games with the Tigers, shooting 87.5 percent (seven-for-eight) from the field. The senior from Folsom, Calif., also made all five of his three-point attempts, marking the first time he has been perfect from beyond the three-point line in a game.

Cam Denson and Ivy-Curry contributed double-digit points to the Tigers' victory in addition to Avdalovic's offensive output. Ivy-Curry scored in double figures for the third game in a row with 16 points, and Denson added 16 points, achieving that mark for the first time in his career.

The Tigers tied a season-high with 11 made three-pointers against the Fighting Hawks while shooting 62.3 percent (38-for-61) from the field. The Tigers are shooting 51.8 percent from the field through the first three games of this season, which is the highest team shooting percentage through that many games in more than seven seasons.

Cal State Fullerton enters Friday's game after two consecutive wins against Pepperdine and Vermont. So far in the 2022-23 season, the Titans (2-1) average 75.5 points per game and shoot 41.3 percent from the floor.

With a career-high 21 points, Tory San Antonio led the Titans, shooting 7-of-9 from the field and 4-of-7 from three, six rebounds, and two assists against Vermont. Latrell Wrightsell Jr. had 13 points, nine assists, and eight rebounds in addition to Jalen Harris' 18 points. All five of the Titans' starters scored in double figures, as Max Jones' 13 points and seven rebounds and Vincent Lee's 12 points and five rebounds assisted in the win.

Pacific and Cal State Fullerton have competed 87 times in the history of the two programs, with the most recent meeting coming last season. Jalen Brown assisted the Tigers in scoring with eight points, while Nick Blake added five. However, the Tigers could not overcome the 66-57 deficit, falling to the Titans at the Titan Gym on December 4, 2021.
