SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The Pacific volleyball team dropped a West Coast Conference match Saturday afternoon, falling 25-18, 25-12, 25-20 to #2 San Diego at the Jenny Craig Pavilion.
The Tigers (13-13, 5-10) accumulated 29 kills during the three-set affair, with
Biamba Kabengele leading the team with nine.
Alexa Edwards and
Emily Van Groningen also contributed to the team's offensive efforts, as the duo recorded five kills apiece.
Returning to action for the first time since the win over Saint Mary's on September 30, Van Groningen controlled the Tigers' front line, recording two blocks. The freshman from Ripon, Calif., leads the team in total blocks with 35 and ranks second behind
Logan Blutreich with eight solo blocks.
After dropping the first two sets to the Toreros (24-1, 15-0), the Tigers kept the third set close, never trailing by more than five points. Leading at times throughout the final frame, the Tigers used multiple runs to stay in the match and nearly forced a fourth set. Trailing 19-14, the team embarked on a 6-2 run to cut the deficit to one. However, a 4-0 run ensued as the Toreros closed the set for the straight-set victory.
Pacific returns to action at 6 p.m.on Thursday, Nov. 17, as the Tigers take on Portland at the Alex G. Spanos Center.
