LOS ANGELES – An 89th-minute goal from LMU (8-2-2, 2-0) was enough to snag a 1-0 result from Pacific (1-8-2, 0-1-1).
"As a staff, we are very proud of this group," said Head Coach
Adam Reeves. "The guys left everything on the field."
Samuel Saiz Herraiz led the way for the Tigers on offense, firing five shots and putting two on goal.
Ryan Her and
Samuel Villalta both put shots on goal.
Brian Lanier had four saves in goal. The Tigers outshot the Lions 10-8.
The Tigers came out hot, firing seven shots in the first half and forcing three Lions saves. The Pacific defense locked down an explosive LMU offense in the first half, limiting LMU to just one shot on goal.
The two teams were locked in for the second half, with LMU putting three shots on goal through the first 30 minutes of the second half while Pacific put one shot on goal. After a Pacific offsides call in the 88th minute, LMU took advantage, scoring in the 89th minute. Pacific was awarded a free kick in the 90th minute, and
Emmanuel Benson-Oladeinbo got a shot off but could not put it on goal.
"We are all extremely disappointed with the result," continued Reeves. "Didn't deserve to lose this game. Unfortunately, one moment extremely late in the match was the difference. I thought we created enough to score tonight. That would be my only criticism, not being clinical enough in the final third."
The Tigers have a bye week next week and will not play again until October 22, traveling to Gonzaga.
