Her and Roque Score as Pacific Downs Gonzaga

SPOKANE, Wash. – The Pacific men's soccer team (2-8-2, 1-1-1) picked up its first conference win of the season in a 2-1 victory over Gonzaga (4-9-1, 0-2-1).

"Massive three points tonight," said Head Coach Adam Reeves. "That was the goal, and it was evident to the guys that it didn't matter how we got it done. We needed three points. Proud of the guys for getting it done. We started the game off brightly. I thought they executed exactly what we discussed all week and got two early goals from it."

Senior Derick Roque and fifth-year senior Ryan Her scored for the Tigers in the win. Senior Samuel Villalta had an assist. The Tigers put five shots on goal, with Roque and Her accounting for three. Junior Lukas Aeberli and Sophomore Jorge Galvan also put shots on goal. Fifth-year senior Eric Cotton had three saves in goal. Nine Tigers played 85 or more minutes in the game.

Pacific put four shots on goal in the first half as the Bulldogs could not stop a reinvigorated Tiger attack. Pacific struck first as Her netted his fifth goal of the season, putting Pacific up 1-0 in the 19th minute. Roque wasted no time adding to the action, receiving a pass from Villalta and put the Tigers up 2-0 with his first goal of the season.

"I thought we should have finished the game off," Reeves continued. "I thought it should have been three nil or four nil. We made it difficult on ourselves at the end of the game, but we held on, bent and didn't break, and I am so proud of the guys. It keeps us in the mix a little bit here. And we look forward to the next match Wednesday at home.

Gonzaga adjusted in the second half and tapered the Pacific attack, holding the team to one shot on goal. Gonzaga got on the board in the 86th minute, putting home a penalty kick after a Pacific yellow card. However, it was too late for the Bulldogs as the Tigers would take the 2-1 victory.

Pacific is back home at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct 26, against Saint Mary's.
