Tigers Fall to Broncos in First Conference Match

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – The Pacific women's soccer team (5-1-6, 0-1-0) dropped its first match of the season against Santa Clara (5-6-1, 1-0-0), 3-0.

The Tigers were shut out for the first time this season. As a team, the Tigers took six shots. Jaida Nyby, Alexis Pashales and Hunter More all put shots on goal. In goal, Brenna Crump had six saves. The loss ended an 11-match unbeaten streak to open the season, the best start in program history.

"This game is cruel at times, but this is why we love it," said Co-Head Coach Danesha Adams and J.J. Wozniak. "We knew Santa Clara would respond after last week and felt we had some great moments in the game but didn't make the most of those moments. Tough when you are battling more than just the opponent, but we will push and be ready for St. Mary's on Wednesday."

The Tigers put two great shots on goal in the first half but were held scoreless. The Santa Clara attack put pressure on the Pacific back line for most of the game, firing 17 shots with nine on goal. The Broncos scored in the 43rd minute after intercepting a Pacific pass in the defensive end and finding the net for the lead.

The Tigers continued to build an attack, but the Broncos had adjusted from the first matchup and held a potent Tiger attack in check. The Broncos scored quickly in the second half, taking a 2-0 lead in the 52nd minute. A penalty goal in the 72nd minute brought the score to 3-0.

The Tigers are back home on Wednesday, Oct. 5, taking on Saint Mary's. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
