PORTLAND, Ore. - The University of the Pacific volleyball team won its second match in three days with a 25-19, 25-21, 25-10 win over host University of Portland on Thursday night.

The Tigers (5-10, 2-2 WCC) controlled the match, leading for most of the match with just five lead changes for the entire match. The all-around team effort saw Pacific hit .276 with 26 assists to go along with nine service aces and six blocks in the win.Â

The .276 hitting percentage matches a season-high for Pacific, who also hit at the same clip against Tarleton State on Sept. 3. The nine service aces are the fourth highest total on the season.Â

Set 1
After the two teams traded side outs for the first eight points, Pacific went ahead on a
Kennedy Kaminsky kill for an early 5-4 lead. The Tigers managed to stretch the lead to as much as eight en route to the 25-19 set victory. For Pacific, Kaminsky and
Lucy Carpenter each had three kills as the Tigers hit .264 in the opening set.
Gabby Leo provided five assists and two service aces from her setter position.
Set 2
The Tigers found themselves behind 10-4 before a 9-3 run by the Tigers tied the match for the second time and prompted a timeout by the host Pilots. After the timeout, Pacific took its first lead of the set on a service ace by
Jenna Heller as the Tigers would go on to lead for the remainder of the set. Kaminsky and
Sedona Sherman each had three kills as Pacific hit .162 for the victory.Â
Set 3
The third set saw the two teams tied at 1, 2 and 5 before four unanswered points by the Tigers put Pacific ahead for the remainder of the set. In the four-point spurt, Pacific picked up a service ace by
Darina Kumanova and a kill by
Alexa Edwards to spark the Tigers. The spurt prompted a Portland timeout. Following the break, Pacific scored six of the next eight points to force the Pilots to use their second and final timeout. After surrendering two points to Portland, the Pacific coaching staff called its first timeout of the set. The Tigers responded with 10-straight points to secure the set. Edwards finished the set with a team-high four kills. Heller and Leo combined for seven assists as Pacific hit .412 with just one hitting error in the set.

Next, Pacific will travel to Spokane, Wash. for its third match of the week as they face Gonzaga on Saturday, Oct. 2 at noon.
