Berkeley, Calif. - The University of the Pacific men's water polo team split a pair of contests at the MPSF Invitational, losing to No. 1 UCLA, 12-10 in the round of 16 and defeating Long Beach State, 12-7 in the consolation round.
With the 1-1 mark on Saturday, Pacific is now 5-5 on the season.
Vs. UCLA
• Pacifc jumped out to a 2-1 lead on goals by Matthew Hasmer and
Bogdan Djerkovic for the early lead.
• After a 2-1 lead in the first quarter, UCLA outscored Pacific, 3-1, in the second quarter for a 5-3 lead at the break. The second quarter goal for the Tigers came from Djerkovic for his second goal of the contest.
• Pacific made it a one-goal game, 5-4, in the third quarter when Djorde Stanic scored with 5:43 left. The Bruins managed to add to its lead with a pair of Jack Larsen goals for 7-4.
• The Tigers closed out the third quarter with another goal each by Stanic, Hosmer and Mihailo Vukacic to tie the contest at 7.
• The Bruins came back to regain the lead with a pair of even-strength goals as they would lead for the remainder of the contest.
• For the Tigers,
Bogdan Djerkovic finished the game with three goals, Djorde Stanic had two goals and two assists, Mihailo Vukacic had a goal and three assists. Pacific goalkeeper
John Hedges had eight saves.
• For the Bruins, Felix Brozyna-Villm and Nicolas Savelijic each had three goals in the win.
Vs. Long Beach State
• Pacific scored 12 goals on 24 shots and outscored Long Beach State, 10-4 over the last three quarters of the game en route to the win.
• The Tigers got a four-goal game from Mihalio Vukacic and three more from
Jeremie Cote. Djorde Stanic had four assists to go along with a goal,
Matthew Hosmer added two goals and an assist.
• Long Beach State jumped out to a 3-1 lead until Vukacic scored a pair of goals to tie the contest at 3.
• LBSU regained the lead with its first goal of the second quarter unti back-to-back goals by Cote and Stanic put Pacific ahead 5-4 at the halftime break.
• The Tiger offense picked up where it left off with a pair of goals by Vukacic and Bogdan DJerkovic to start the second half for a 7-4 lead. Pacific managed to lead the remainder of the contest.
• Pacific outscored LBSU, 3-1 in the third quarter and 4-2 in the fourth quarter en route to the win.
Next, Pacific will face UC Santa Barbara at 10 a.m. in a fifth-place matchup at the Spieker Aquatics Complex.
