Pacific Volleyball Comes Back to Defeat CSUN in Four

STOCKTON, Calif. – The University of the Pacific volleyball team came from a set down to post a 14-25, 25-15, 25-21, 26-24 win over CSUN on Saturday on the final day of the Sacramento State Tournament. 12 service aces and nine blocks to go along with 10 kills each from Ramonni Cook and Darina Kumanova led the Tigers in the win. Jenna Heller and Alexa Edwards contributed four and three service aces to the win. Kumanova added 12 digs for the double double, plus, Jadyn Tubbs had a team-high 15 digs. 

Set 1
A 9-2 run by the Matadors after back-to-back service aces by reserve Megan Nishimura propelled CSUN to a 25-14 win in the opening set. CSUN hit at a .207 clip and the frontline came away with four blocks for the first set win. Pacific was led by a four-kill effort from Darina Kumanova
 
Set 2
Pacific started the second set on a 4-0 run which included a pair of kills by Kaelyn Saler. After Pacific built an early 5-2 lead, the Matadors came back with three-straight to tie the set at five. The Tigers went on a 7-0 run midway through the set for a 17-8 lead. Saler finished the set with five kills as the Tigers hit .333 en route to the 25-15 win. 
 
Set 3
Pacific started the set with a 8-1 lead, including a 6-0 run. Pacific added to its lead, stretching the lead to 12-4. CSUN came back to tie the set at 18 and 19, respectively. The Tigers regained the lead with a Matador error and a pair of Kumanova kills en route to the 25-21 victory. 

Set 4 
The Tigers started the set with a 5-1 lead, capitalizing on three attack errors and a service ace by Miranda Baptist for the early advantage. CSUN took a brief 10-9 advantage that prompted a Tigers timeout, who came back to regain the lead, 11-10. Pacific held a 16-14 lead before a CSUN timeout, who saw the Tigers again answer with a 3-1 spurt for a 19-15 lead. The Matadors had an answer to the spurt and tied the set on four more occasions. The Tigers missed on their first chance at set point but came back with a kill by Cook and Alexa Edwards to secure the set by a 26-24 margin for the match victory. 

Next Up
The Tigers remain on the road for a trip to Tempe, Arizona for the Arizona State Tournament, Sept. 16-17. While in Tempe, Pacific will face host Arizona State at 6 p.m. on Sept. 16 and UNLV at 1 p.m. on Sept. 17.
