STOCKTON, Calif. – The University of the Pacific women's soccer team opened up the 2021 regular season with a 1-0 win over Mountain West Conference member Nevada on Friday night at Knoles Field.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
• Junior midfielder
Jaida Nyby (Eugene, Ore.) accounted for the lone goal in the 28
th minute.
• For Nyby, it is the second-straight year that she has had a goal in the season opener.
• Junior forward
Lauren Frohan (San Francisco, Calif.) assisted on the goal for her first career points.
• Freshman goalkeeper
Juliana Alexander (Bakersfield, Calif.) picked up the shutout, facing seven shots and making three saves.
• The season-opening win for Pacific is its first since the 2011 campaign.
• It is the first win for interim co-head coaches
Danesha Adams and
J.J. Wozniak.
• Pacific dominated the offensive side of the ledger, outshooting the Wolf Pack by a 16-7 margin with an 11-3 advantage in shots on goal.
• The 16 shots are the most by a Pacific squad since a 20-shot effort, last spring against San Diego (April 20, 2021).
• Nine players were credited with a shot in the win, including three each by
Jenae Packard (Brentwood, Calif.) and
Haleigh Wynne (Canyon Lake, Calif.)
• Wynne had a pair of shots that were saved by the Wolf Pack goalkeeper in the 55
th and 59
th minute, respectively that kept the Tigers from adding to its lead.
• The win over Nevada is the first against the Wolf Pack since a 3-0 win on August 19, 2011.
UP NEXT:
Next on the schedule for the Tigers is a contest against UC Santa Barbara on Sunday at noon in another non-conference matchup at Knoles Field. The Gauchos opened up the 2021 season with a 2-0 loss to Iowa State on Friday night. Six-different players had a shot and goalkeeper Evann Smith had four saves in the loss. The two teams have not played one another since the 2017 season, when they played to a 2-2 tie in Santa Barbara.
