LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Aiming to salvage the series in game three, the Pacific baseball team (8-20, 0-9) struggled at the plate in their series finale against UNLV (14-7, 9-6) as the Rebels shutout the Tigers, 10-0, on Sunday afternoon.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
- Beginning the scoring early, left fielder Austin Kyrszczuk gave UNLV the early 1-0 lead with a leadoff home run in the bottom of the first.
- One inning later, the Rebels would add to their lead with five runs on five hits, chasing senior Henrik Reinertsen from the mound as junior Dylan Pottgieser came on in relief in the second inning.
- With neither team scoring in the following two innings, UNLV tacked on one run in home half of the fifth inning on a double from Arizona State transfer Myles Denson. In the sixth, the Rebels pushed their lead to 9-0 with two more runs on three additional hits before plating their final run of the contest on an RBI groundout in the seventh.
- Despite getting two baserunners on in the top of the eighth, Pacific could not rally together to find the necessary hits for a comeback down the stretch as the Rebels secured the series sweep by a final score of 10-0.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
- Reaching double digits, senior Alex LeForestier has now reached base in ten consecutive contests after finishing 2-for-4 on Sunday. Additionally, senior Charles Middleton is four games behind with a streak of six games reaching base himself. Overall, both LeForestier and Middleton also currently hold four-game hitting streaks.
- On the mound, Pottgieser and redshirt fifth year student Nick Swanson also each recorded their second straight appearance with no runs allowed, combining for 3.0 innings of scoreless relief for the Tigers in the finale.
