Malibu, Calif. – Three Tigers had six kills as they hit .109 in a 25-15, 25-19, 25-20 loss to Pepperdine on Saturday afternoon.
The Wave (18-4, 10-3 WCC), who are just on the verge of being in the Top 25, were led by the tandem of Rachel Ahrens and Emma Ammerman, who had 15 and 10 kills, respectively. Ahlers posted a .268 hitting percentage to go along with three blocks; plus Ammerman had a .217 hitting percentage as Pepperdine hit .271 for the match. The Pepperdine frontline posted eight blocks and recorded four service aces to go along with 30 assists from Isabel Zelaya.
The Tigers (11-14, 8-6 WCC) saw its four-match win streak snapped in the loss. Pacific posted a balanced attack in the loss as they were able to six kills each from
Alexa Edwards,
Sedona Sherman and
Darina Kumanova. Sherman added three block assists as Pacific recorded eight block assists as a team; plus Edwards had 11 digs and libero
Jadyn Tubbs added 10. Setters
Gabby Leo and
Jenna Heller had 16 and 11 assists, respectively. Sherman also had her hand on three blocks as Pacific recorded eight blocks.
Set 1
• Pepperdine led the entire opening set from start to finish with a .192 hitting percentage.
• The host Wave scored the first three points of the match en route to an early 5-1 lead before the Tigers cut the deficit to 5-4 on the strength of a
Jadyn Tubbs service ace.
Set 2
• After an early 3-1 deficit, the Tigers came back to take an 8-5 lead on the Wave to prompt a Pepperdine timeout.
• Pacific held the lead before Pepperdine rallied to tie the set on three occasions before a Grace Chillingsworth kill put the host Wave ahead 16-15 and for the remainder of the set.
Set 3
• The two teams traded the first eight points before back-to-back Wave kills put the home team ahead for the remainder of the set.
• Down seven, 18-11, the Tigers regrouped in a timeout to cut the deficit to one, 20-19, with an 8-2 run to force the Wave to use both of its timeouts.
• With a one-point deficit, Pepperdine picked up three straight points en route to a 25-20 set victory.
Next, the Tigers will close out the season with four home matches at the Alex G. Spanos Center. First, Pacific will host Saint Mary's on Friday, Nov. 12 at 7 p.m.
