Tigers Drop Heartbreaker to Highlanders

STOCKTON, Calif. – The Tigers were back in action against UC Riverside on Saturday afternoon. The Tigers created an early lead, but a strong second half from Riverside decided the game as the Highlanders played spoiler, winning 75-67. 
 
Pacific got out to a quick lead as the offense was cruising in the first quarter, the Tigers created a lead as large as 18 points. The Tigers efficiency was impressive, shooting 63% as a team.
 
The Highlanders got going in the second quarter, outscoring the Tigers by one point. Heading into halftime the Tigers were still up by double-digits. Cecilia Holmberg scored the final eight points of the quarter for Pacific. 
 
The third quarter was the lowest scoring quarter of the game for the Tigers, scoring only nine points as the Highlanders got within one point of the Tigers lead. "We have to have better composure," said Head Coach Bradley Davis after the game. "It starts with the upperclassmen we do have but it is across the board … we have to have composure when the other team makes a run like they did."
 
The Tigers did not go down without a fight in the fourth quarter, reaching a lead of six with five and a half minutes left in the game. The Highlanders had an 18 to four scoring run to end the game which secured the win for Riverside. 
 
The Tiger Player of the Game, Anaya James led the team with 15 points, adding seven assists and five rebounds in her first collegiate start. Cecilia Holmberg and Elizabeth Elliott had their second straight games with double digit points. 
 
The Tigers are back at Alex G. Spanos Center next Wednesday, November 17 at 7 PM hosting UC Bakersfield.
