STOCKTON, Calif. - After winning its first five-set match of the season on Thursday, the Pacific volleyball team nearly overcame a two-set to none deficit against Loyola Marymount on Saturday. The visiting Lions had taken the first two sets by an identical margin of 25-21 before the Tigers roared back to win the next two sets, 25-12 and 25-21 to force a fifth set that went in favor of the visitors by a 15-8 margin.

The loss ends a four-match win streak for Pacific, who falls to 7-11 overall and 4-3 in the West Coast Conference. The Tigers' duo of
Alexa Edwards and
Gabby Leo each recorded a double double in the loss. Edwards had a team-high 16 kills and 10 digs to go along with four blocks, whereas Leo had 21 assists and 13 digs.Â

The Lions improve their overall mark to 14-2 overall and 5-1 in the WCC. A balanced attack for LMU hit .126 and they recorded 13 blocks in the win. Audrey Klemp had 13 kills and five blocks, plus Jacquelyn Moore had six kills and nine blocks – a block solo and eight block assists for the winning effort.

Set 1Â Â
The first set was tied on nine occasions and saw three lead changes. The two teams were tied at 11 as LMU went ahead on a three-point spurt to lead for the remainder of the set. The Lions hit .269 with four kills each from Megan Rice and Kari Geissberger to secure the set by a 25-21 margin. The Tigers hit .100 and got three kills each from
Alexa Edwards and
Darina Kumanova.

Set 2
Pacific opened the set with a 9-5 lead to force the visitors to call a timeout. LMU answered with a 4-1 spurt to force a Tigers timeout. The Lions rallied to tie the set for the fourth time at 12 and went ahead on a 5-1 run for the first time on the afternoon. LMU went on to win the set, 25-21.Â
Set 3
The first six points of the third set were split between the two teams until a
Darina Kumanova kill put Pacific ahead 4-3 and for the remainder of the set. Pacific held LMU to a -.125 hitting percentage and the Tigers' defense posted four blocks to complement a hot-hitting attack that hit .333 with 12 kills.Â

Set 4
Trailing 7-4 in the fourth set, Pacific called timeout. The Tigers regrouped in the timeout and rallied back with a 6-2 spurt that put the home team ahead 10-9. The Tigers stretched the lead to five on three occasions en route to a 25-21 set victory to force a fifth and deciding set. The hot hitting continued for the Tigers as they posted a .205 hitting percentage in the set as Edwards hammered down five kills to go along with four from
Sedona Sherman. Setters
Gabby Leo and
Jenna Heller had seven and six assists, respectively.Â

Set 5
Pacific and LMU went back and forth through the first 10 points. A Kari Geissinger kill and an attack error by Pacific put the visitors ahead 7-5. The visitors remained in front for the rest of the set to secure the win. The Lions had six kills and a .222 hitting percentage to go along with four blocks en route to the win.Â

Next, Pacific will travel to Moraga to face St. Mary's on Friday, Oct. 15 at 7 p.m.
