MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Memphis Hustle, NBA G League affiliate of the Memphis Grizzlies, recently announced their official roster for the 2021 NBA G League season on Tuesday, Jan. 26.
Jahlil Tripp, former Tiger and the 2019-20 WCC Defensive Player of the Year, is one of four affiliate players on the finalized roster. The full 2021 roster can be viewed
here.
"It means everything to be part of the Memphis Grizzlies organization and to be able to fulfill my lifelong dream of playing professional basketball," said Tripp. "Coach Stoudamire played and coached for Memphis, so a lot of the things that he learned here, he brought to Pacific. I feel as if I'm right at home just with new family members, so I am extremely excited to begin my pro career here."
The Hustle, along with 16 NBA G League teams and the G League Ignite will take to the court in February at ESPN's Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida. While in the bubble, the top eight teams will advance through a single-elimination playoff until a champion is crowned.
After signing an Exhibit 10 contract with the Grizzlies organization back in November of 2020, Tripp becomes the first Tiger to reach the professional ranks of the NBA since Michael Olowakandi was drafted number one overall by the Los Angeles Clippers in 1998.
In 2019-20, the Brooklyn, N.Y. native put the finishing touches on an unforgettable career by propelling Pacific to its first 20-win campaign since 2010-11 and a share of third place in the final regular season conference standings. Dominating no matter the opponent, he also led the WCC with 11 double-doubles in addition to finishing as the top rebounder in the conference with an average of 8.9 per game.
Throughout his three years in Stockton, Tripp helped establish a culture for Pacific men's basketball. Overall, the 6'5" guard earned All-Conference honors in all three of his seasons at UOP, including earning a spot on the All-WCC First Team in 2019-20. On Jan. 18, 2020, he became the 29
th athlete in program history to eclipse 1,000 career points.
Historically, Tripp left an indelible mark on the program as he ranks amongst the Tiger greats following his time under head coach
Damon Stoudamire: third in steals (148), ninth in assists (308), twelfth in total rebounds (727) and sixteenth in total scoring (1,223 points).
