Four Pillars Award - Jahlil Tripp

STOCKTON, Calif. - Jahlil Tripp, a senior on the men's basketball team,  has been named a recipient of a 2020 Pacific Athletics Four Pillars Award, given to a student-athlete who exemplifies each of Pacific's four core identities: Family, Balance, Winning Spirit and Innovation. 

As both a student and an athlete, Jahlil embodies the four pillars of Pacific Athletics in a flawless manner. Balancing all that comes his way, his leadership paves the way for his peers, while his passion to compete and desire for knowledge has resulted in success both on the court and in the classroom. This summer, Jahlil will be graduating with a degree in Communications, having tirelessly dedicated himself to the pursuit of excellence in his studies during his time as a Tiger. Scheduled to be the first to graduate from a university in his family, Tripp believes in guiding others by examples.

Proving that his winning spirit is not confined to the hardwood, Tripp displays his positive attitude in his endeavors off the court. Always the first to offer advice or reassure his teammates when a situation is complex, Jahlil has made a home at Pacific and has been an integral pieces of the recruiting process for head coach Damon Stoudamire. No matter the recruit, he always took time out of his schedule to meet with potential new athletes and their families, sharing with them the reasons why Pacific would be the ideal fit for their son.

Furthermore, Tripp consistently makes it his mission to include his teammates off campus as well, inviting fellow teammates and staff to gatherings and holidays to instill the culture of family. Overall, his creative ideas and suggestions in high pressure situations during competition also pushed his teammates to innovate and find a way to win, even when it doesn't seem likely.

Additionally, Jahlil has helped to innovate the program's study tables, assisting academic advisors in scheduling to ensure for the academic success of his teammates. On the court, Tripp guided the Tigers from to five West Coast Conference wins in 2018-19 to eleven wins in 2019-20, in addition to the program's most successful season overall in over a decade. These accomplishments, along with his mission of impacting the lives of individuals around him, will be why Tripp is remembered for propelling the men's basketball program to their current success.
