STOCKTON, Calif. – Pacific women's basketball head coach
Bradley Davis announced the signing of Australian Junior Championships player and 2018 Premier League champion Rosie Schweizer from Canberra, Australia on Monday.
Schweizer, a 6'0 forward, will transfer to Pacific from George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia.
"We're excited to add Rosie to our Tiger family," Davis said. "She's a versatile forward that can play inside and out. What I appreciate most about Rosie is that she plays with energy and such a high motor. Her work ethic on the floor is matched in the classroom, and I am confident she'll be a great fit here at Pacific."
An astounding six-sport athlete at the state (ACT) level in Australia, Schweizer competed for Canberra Girls Grammar School (CGGS), where she was a three-time team MVP, two-time team captain and the 2018 CGGS Captain of Sports as a member of the Senior Council. Schweizer graduated from CGGS in December of 2018 before enrolling at George Mason.
Schweizer was a winner outside of CGGS, also. She played three years for the Canberra Capitals Academy in the South East Australian Basketball League and won the 2018 ACT Open Premier League with the Western Creek Woden Dodgers, averaging 18 points and 12 rebounds per game. She also played for the ACT at the Australian Junior Basketball nationals from 2014 to 2018, averaging 14 points and a tournament-high 13.5 rebounds at the 2017 U17 Nationals. Returning to the national stage at the 2018 U20 Nationals, Schweizer was named co-captain and went on to average 15 points, 12.5 rebounds and three assists.
"I chose Pacific because I really felt it was the right place for me," Schweizer said. "I knew I wanted to be a part of a great family, get coached by amazing coaches, go to a great academic school and contribute to a program with great culture. Pacific ticked all the boxes and was a perfect fit for me. Coach Davis really helped me see what Pacific had to offer and I'm excited to get to be a part of it."
Schweizer excelled off the hardwood, earning the Leadership Award, the Bruce Lambert Award for geography and social studies and the Caltex Medal for all-around athletic and academic excellence, all in 2018. She was awarded Full House Colours in 2017 and 2018, Full Basketball Colours from 2016 to 2018 and received the Academic Excellence Award and Sportsmans Cup in 2018.
