FRESNO, Calif. - The Pacific baseball team (8-8) will aim to secure their first midweek victory of the season when they travel south to take on Fresno State (8-7) on Wednesday night.
Having dropped their two previous midweek matches to UC Davis and Sacramento State, the Tigers are hungry to get back over .500 in their showdown against the Bulldogs.

After falling in the first two games of the series, Pacific salvaged the finale in Phoenix this past Sunday by defeating Grand Canyon, 8-0, behind a dominant performance on the mound by junior Hayden Pearce. Shutting down the opposing lineup all afternoon, Pearce was named the City of Stockton Human Resources Hardworking Player of the game after finishing with a final line of 6.0 IP, 6 H, 0 ER, 3 SO and 1 BB.Â

Delivering at the plate, the 2-3-4 combination of sophomore Jeremy Lea, junior Charles Middleton and junior Alex LeForestier combined to go 9-for-14 from the plate, with each player driving in two RBI for the Tigers.

With his RBI single in the top of the ninth, freshman Thomas Gavello picked up his first collegiate run batted in against the Lopes.

Overall, the Tigers tallied six extra-base hits to GCU's one.

Stepping into a vital role since his first day on campus, Middleton continues to impress in his first season in Stockton as the outfielder currently ranks first on the team and third in the WCC in batting average with a .406 clip. Additionally, he also sits third in total RBI (19), fourth in total bases (40) and fifth in home runs (3).

Having also found his stride at the plate, LeForestier has consistently drawn attention from opponents as the third baseman has sharpened his skillset with each game. Heading into Tuesday, the Sacramento native is first in the WCC in triples (2), eighth in batting average (.368) and tenth in total hits (21).

Coming up clutch for the Tigers, Pearce also has dazzled on the rubber as the right hander is second in the conference in walks allowed per nine innings (0.76) and third in WHIP (0.80) and strikeout-to-walk ratio (11.00).
SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS:

This past weekend, Fresno State also played a three-game series in the desert, but ultimately were swept by No. 10 Arizona State, falling 4-3, 9-4 and 8-3.

Overall, this will be the 147th meeting between the two programs, with the Bulldogs currently holding the 99-47 advantage over Pacific. The Tigers last victory over Fresno State came in a 12-11 walkoff win on Apr. 19, 2017.

At the dish, the Bulldogs currently rank 10th in Division I with 21 total home runs as a team in addition to placing eighth in the nation in home runs per game with a 1.40 mark. Additionally, they also rank 32nd in the NCAA with a .466 slugging percentage

Proving to be competitive within their own conference, the Bulldogs currently sit in the top five in the Mountain West in batting average (fourth), on-base percentage (third), sacrifice bunts (second), runs scored (second), hits, (fourth), RBI (third), doubles (fourth) and triples (tied-third).
