Tigers Down Broncos for Senior Day Win

STOCKTON, Calif. – The Pacific women's basketball team (15-13, 8-9 WCC) sent out its three seniors in a thrilling finish Saturday afternoon at the Alex G. Spanos Center, holding on for the 71-69 win over Santa Clara (11-18, 5-13 WCC).

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:

First Half
  • Pacific started Senior Day a bit sluggish, but picked it up with hot shooting from Kaylin Randhawa, who led the way with a game-high eight points at the 1:11 mark of the first quarter.
  • Meanwhile, Brooklyn McDavid and Savannah Whitehead led the way with three rebounds apiece simultaneously as Pacific held a 20-12 lead and 11-5 in rebounds.
  • A strong inside presence from Savannah Whitehead allowed her to hit a stretch of four of five field goals and allowed Pacific to double up the Broncos 30-15, a different type of game seen from the teams' previous matchup prior to the turn of the new year.
  • Pacific outrebounded Santa Clara 22-16 in the first half, led by five from Kaiser.
Second Half
  • Callie Kaiser opened the second half with a bucket right out of the halftime break, but the Broncos went on a 6-0 run soon after to cut into Pacific's lead.
  • After a third quarter that saw Jordan Cruz hit a clutch three for the 50-46 lead, Pacific held Santa Clara to one of their last eight from the field to surge ahead.
  • McDavid registered a game-high eight third-quarter points at Pacific shot 8 of 13 from the floor for the quarter.
  • Santa Clara kept crawling back to try for the comeback win, but a last-second attempt rimmed out to give Pacific the Senior Day victory.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
  • Jordan Cruz led the Tigers with nine points off the bench, including the clutch third-quarter three to give Pacific more of a cushion with the 50-46 lead.
  • Randhawa registered eight in the first quarter of the afternoon to help Pacific double up Santa Clara, 24-12, after a quarter of play.
  • Brooklyn McDavid was named the City of Stockton Human Resources Hardworking Player of the Game after registering 19 points on 7-of-11 shooting with eight rebounds.
  • Following her fellow senior's lead in the clutch, Sofie Tryggedsson scored eight of her 10 points in the fourth quarter, including a key three-pointer at the 1:11 mark to put Pacific ahead 70-66 before making all three crucial free throws on a shooting foul with under three minutes to go.
UP NEXT:
  • Pacific will head to Las Vegas for the West Coast Conference Championships, opening up on Friday at 12:00 p.m. as the five seed against either the Broncos or San Francisco.
