Young Corps Steps Up in Loss to Dons

STOCKTON, Calif. – The Pacific women's basketball team (15-13, 8-9 WCC) got a sizeable chunk of offense from its younger corps, but fell 67-61 to San Francisco (11-18, 4-13) Thursday evening inside the Alex G. Spanos Center.

First Half
  • Pacific overcame a slow start in the first quarter to make four of five field goals – three from Kaylin Randhawa – and pull within 9-8 after the game's first media break and go on a 6-0 run. 
  • Randhawa had six of the Tigers' first 10 points through the first quarter of play.
  • Savannah Whitehead dropped in the hook shot at the 6:40 mark of the second quarter, then Brooklyn McDavid put back her own rebound to give Pacific the 23-22 lead in the midst of a 10-1 run.
  • Pacific was on an offensive streak at that point, getting four of four field goals from Randhawa and three of her last four from McDavid while forcing the Dons' 10th turnover with a little over four minutes until the halftime break.
  • Cassidy Johnson helped the Tigers surge ahead late, notching a career-high seven points in the second quarter alone to help the Tigers take a 33-32 lead into the halftime break. 
  • Johnson led the Pacific reserves for the first half, helping the Tigers outscore San Francisco 11-1 from the bench.
Second Half
  • Brooklyn McDavid opened the second half with the crafty lay-in from Callie Kaiser, giving her eight points on the evening on 4-of-8 shooting.
  • McDavid ended her night with 13 points, going into double figures scoring for the 21st time this season and eighth time out of nine.
  • Pacific kept San Francisco cold from downtown in the third quarter, with the Dons going 1 of 6 from three in the third.
  • Randhawa and Josephine Millard led the charge for the Tigers in the third quarter with five and six points, respectively to lead a 15-9 frame for Pacific. 
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
  • Millard and Johnson both notched career highs Thursday against the Dons with 13 and seven points. Millard's 13 led the Tigers off the bench.
  • Pacific outscored the Dons 11-1 off the bench in the first half, leading to a 20-9 advantage for the contest.
  • Randhawa was named the City of Stockton Human Resources Hardworking Player of the Game with a team-high 16 points on 5-of-14 shooting to go along with four rebounds.
UP NEXT: 
  • Pacific will close out the 2019-20 regular season with a 2:00 p.m. tipoff on Saturday against Santa Clara at the Alex G. Spanos Center. The Tigers will celebrate graduating seniors Callie Kaiser, Sofie Tryggedsson and Jessica Blakeslee prior to the opening tip.
