Tigers Begin Final Road Trip at LMU

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The Pacific men's basketball team (21-9, 9-5) will travel to southern California for their final road trip of the regular season this weekend when they face Loyola Marymount (10-18, 4-10) on Thursday afternoon.
 
Securing a first-round bye in the WCC Tournament last Saturday with a win over Santa Clara, the Tigers aim to close out their schedule on a high note before travel to Las Vegas next weekend.

LAST TIME OUT:
  • Closing out their historic 2019-20 home schedule, Pacific notched their 15th overall win at the Spanos Center this year with an 87-74 victory on Saturday, Feb. 22. Celebrating senior night, the Tigers officially clinched a first-round bye in the WCC Tournament with the win over the Broncos.
  • Finishing out his career in the Orange and Black in style, senior Jahlil Tripp was named the City of Stockton Human Resources Hardworking Player of the Game after recording his second highest point total of the season (29 points) while also adding 6 rebounds and 5 assists.
  • Overall, three Tigers tallied double figures in the win as senior Austin Vereen poured in 14 points while sophomore Jahbril Price-Noel notched 12 points against the Broncos.
  • Impressing on the glass, the Tigers outrebounded Santa Clara by a wide margin, 35-21.
  • Additionally, Pacific led their conference foe in points off turnovers (22-8), second chance points (20-4), bench points (28-22) and points in the paint (42-28). 
THINGS TO KNOW:
  • Heading into the final week of the regular season, Pacific currently leads the WCC in team defense (64.64 ppg) while also placing sixth in the nation in rebounding margin with a +8.43 mark.
  • Making his case for Conference Player of the Year, Tripp ranks seventh in the WCC in scoring (15.8 ppg), first in rebounding (8.73 rpg), third in field-goal percentage (.526), seventh in free-throw percentage (71.0) and fifth in steals (1.47 spg).
  • Consistently delivering at the point guard position, freshman Pierre Crokcrell II has shown tremendous growth throughout the season as the Tacoma, Wash. Native currenty leads the WCC in assist-to-turnover ratio while also placing third in the country in this category.
  • Looking to make more history, the Tigers are hungry for their first season sweep over LMU since rejoining the conference in 2013-14. 
SCOUTING THE LIONS:
  • After winning two of their last three on the road, LMU returns home to close out the regular season against Pacific and San Francisco.
  • Proving to be a problem no matter the matchup, junior Eli Scott collected his sixth double-double of the year on Saturday in the Lions 66-58 win at Portland, tallying 14 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists for LMU. Overall, the Chino Hills native is currently in the top-ten in scoring (16.07 ppg), rebounding (6.50 rpg), field-goal percentage (.536), assists (4.43 apg) and minutes played (34.69 mpg).
  • Stingy like the Tigers, the Lions rank fourth in the conference in team defense, allowing only 67.71 points per game to opponents. Additionally, LMU also sits in the top-five in rebounding margin (+0.75), field-goal percentage (.468) and turnovers (13.86).
