PROVO, Utah – The Pacific women's basketball team (14-12, 7-8 WCC) saw a career day from
Sofie Tryggedsson, but couldn't keep up the momentum in the second half in a 65-54 loss to BYU (15-9, 10-4) Saturday afternoon at the Marriott Center.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
First Half
- Pacific held the Cougars scoreless in a stretch of three minutes while keeping their ground in a tight game with BYU leading 10-9 at the first media break.
- The cold stretch continued for the Cougars, who were held to 1 of 8 from the field during a six-minute scoring drought while Sofie Tryggedsson countered with a three on the other end. The Denmark native ended the quarter with eight points on a perfect 3-of-3 shooting, including going 2 for 2 from deep.
- Pacific ended the first quarter on an 8-0 run over 5:28 while holding BYU to one for its last 10 to end the quarter.
- Tryggedsson showed no signs of slowing down, burying her fourth triple of the afternoon with 23 seconds until halftime to bring Pacific within one at halftime, 27-26.
- Defensively, Pacific held BYU to 33 percent from the field for the half.
Second Half
- Tryggedsson tied a season high with 17 points and career high with her fifth three at the 6:40 mark of the third quarter to give the Tigers a 33-32 lead. She set the career high with her sixth three in the third quarter and ended the afternoon with career highs in points (24) and made threes (six).
- Pacific stayed in the game with rapid firing from downtown, throwing up 15 threes in the second half.
- Brooklyn McDavid inched closer to her second double double on the season, ending the day with 10 points and nine rebounds.
- 10 of Pacific's 38 rebounds came in the fourth quarter, with Kaylin Randhawa accounting for three to lead the Tigers.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
- Tryggedsson's career day earned her City of Stockton Human Resources Hardworking Player of the Game honors.
- The Tigers tied a season high with eight made threes.
- Pacific grabbed 38 rebounds against the Cougars, their fourth-most against a WCC opponent this season.
