LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The Pacific women's basketball team (13-9, 6-5 WCC) got off to a fast start against LMU on Saturday afternoon, using key performances off the bench and a career day from
Kaylin Randhawa to take down the Lions (7-17, 3-8 WCC), 87-70, at Gersten Pavilion and sweep the season series for the first time since the 2014-15 season.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
First Half
- Pacific came out on an offensive tear, converting four of their first five from the field to race out to a 10-5 lead at the 6:27 mark of the first quarter.
- Brooklyn McDavid converted four of five of her own to log eight points in seven minutes through the end of the first quarter, helping Pacific to a 29-17 advantage after ten minutes of action as the Tigers shot 57.9 percent in the first quarter.
- Randhawa entered double figures in the second quarter for the second straight game, fifth time this season and fourth time in West Coast Conference play.
- Pacific went into the halftime break with a 38-32 lead with both McDavid and Randhawa in double figures at 10 and 15 points, respectively.
Second Half
- Randhawa kept on going and entered new territory early in the second half, recording a new season high of 18 points with the three at the 7:48 mark of the third quarter. The Turlock native ended the afternoon with a new career high of 23.
- Valerie Higgins went into double figures for the 17thtime this season with a pair of third-quarter free throws as Pacific extended its lead to 58-43. McDavid also got in on the action, recording her fifth 20-point outing on the season.
- The Tyges hit seven of their final nine field goals to end the third quarter, extending the lead to 68-52 with ten minutes to play.
- Pacific shot 63.3 percent from the field in the second half and 61.5 in the fourth to seal the win.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
- Randhawa earned City of Stockton Human Resources Hardworking Player of the Game honors with her career-high of 23 points on 7-of-13 shooting to augment four rebounds and a perfect 4-of-4 clip from the free throw line.
- As a team, the Tigers hit 13 of 15 shots from the charity stripe for an 87 percent clip, the team's fourth highest on the season, including going 8 for 10 in the fourth quarter.
- Higgins moved up the single-season steals list in Pacific history, recording five against the Lions to give her 81 ahead of Tine Freil's 79 in the 1992-93 season. Offensively, the USC transfer flirted with a triple double for the second time in conference play this season to the tune of 20 points, 13 rebounds and seven assists.
- The Tigers grabbed 40 rebounds for the sixth time this season and second straight outing. Pacific has now put up 40 boards or more in three straight games, dating back to a season-high 52 at Saint Mary's on January 25.
- Pacific dished out 18 assists on Saturday, led by a season-high seven from Higgins – the second most on the season – and eclipsed the 80-point mark for the fourth time this season.
