Tigers Drop Spirited Fight with Bulldogs

STOCKTON, Calif. – The Pacific women's basketball team (13-10, 6-6 WCC) nipped at Gonzaga's heels late in the first half, but ultimately fell in the second half Thursday evening at the Alex G. Spanos Center 83-65 to No. 11 Gonzaga (23-1, 12-1 WCC).

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:

First Half
  • Lianna Tillman led Pacific out of the gate with five points after a quarter on 2-of-5 shooting.
  • Callie Kaiser beat the first quarter buzzer from downtown to cut into Gonzaga's lead 18-14 after ten minutes. Kaiser had already reached a season high with two made threes in the first 20 minutes of play.
  • Pacific went on a 5-0 run in just over a minute with all five points belonging to Brooklyn McDavid, while hitting three of four from the field.
  • The Tigers enjoyed a separate 6-0 run that cut the Gonzaga lead to 40-35 with under a minute until the half. Pacific ended the half on a 9-2 over 2:20 stretch that cut Gonzaga's lead to 42-38 going into the break.
  • Pacific outscored GU 10-0 in second-chance points to end the first half.
Second Half
  • The Tigers went on a stretch of four of five field goals midway through the quarter as they fought to keep up with the Bulldog offense.
  • McDavid and Valerie Higgins each increased their double-digit scoring log to 18 games, combining for 30 points on 10-of-22 shooting.
  • Bench energy kept the Tigers going down the stretch with contributions from Isabel Newman, Josephine Millard and Sam Ashby in the latter stages of the fourth quarter.
  • Pacific closed the gap in the fourth quarter, narrowing the fourth-quarter score to 21-17 to keep Gonzaga on their heels.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
  • Tillman made it two games against the nationally-ranked Bulldogs scoring in double digits, going for 12 points for her fifth double-figure game this season and fourth in West Coast Conference play.
  • Kaiser was a bucket short of tying a season high, finishing with eight points on 3-of-8 shooting.
  • Higgins was named the City of Stockton Human Resources Hardworking Player of the Game, logging 16 points Thursday night on 5-of-12 shooting with six rebounds, three assists and two steals in the effort.
