STOCKTON, Calif. – The Pacific women's soccer team earned its first victory of their 25th Anniversary season on Sunday afternoon against visiting Northern Arizona.
Returners Jenae Packard and Sigrid Aas came up big in the Tigers only home match of the week, each scoring their first goals on the season to lead Pacific in its 2-1 win over the Lumberjacks.
Pacific improves to 1-5 on the season, while Northern Arizona falls to 2-1-1.
In Case You Missed It
- The Tigers were aggressive to start the match, Ryanne Molenaar taking the first shot of the game at 9:55. The shot was blocked past the goal line to give the Tigers their first corner kick, which resulted in a shot on goal by Aas at 10:30.
- Northern Arizona was first on the board after an unassisted goal by Lumberjacks' Madison Montgomery.
- The two squads played conservatively over the next 29 minutes, wrapping up the first half with the just the single goal.
- It was nearly five minutes into the second half before either team attacked the goal. At 49:22 Pacific's Abigail Wolf took her first shot of the game off of a corner kick.
- Following another trip down the field, Packard knotted the score at 1-1 with a goal in the 53rd minute. Isabella Pariente gained position at the midfield, drove it down and passed the ball off to Packard at the top of the box. Packard then placed the ball in the bottom left corner of the net after going one-on-one with Northern Arizona keeper, Taryn Benham.
- The Lumberjacks put some pressure on the Tigers defense immediately following the goal, taking five corner kicks and two shots between 59:14 and 67:48.
- Pariente had another outstanding look in the 70th minute, dribbling down the right side of the field and passing off to Aas, who also scored to the back left corner of the goal after going one-on-one with the Lumberjacks goalie.
- Northern Arizona controlled the ball the remainder of the game, but Pacific's defensive efforts prevailed and the Tigers held on for the win.
Statistically Speaking
- Packard was two-for-two in shots on goal, while Aas finished two-for-three in shots on goal. Wolf, Pariente, and Hunter More each had a shot on goal.
- Pariente continues to lead the Tigers in points, totaling five points with one goal and three assists on the season.
