Tigers Strike Early, Control Tempo In Win Over Manhattan

RIVERDALE, N.Y. – The Pacific women's soccer team started their Big Apple weekend in a big way, coming out fast with an early goal from freshman defender Kelsey Oen and never letting up in a 1-0 win over Manhattan Friday evening at Gaelic Park in Riverdale, New York.

In Case You Missed It
  • Oen netted her first of the year and her first as a Tiger in the 15thminute on a header with the help of Isabella Pariente's fourth assist of the year, giving the Tigers their second consecutive win.
  • A native of San Diego, Oen was one of four freshmen in head coach Kerri Scroope's starting XI against the Jaspers (goalkeeper Brenna Crump, forward Melani Medina, midfielder Ryanne Molenaar).
  • Crump earned her second win in net for the Tigers in as many games after making her third straight outing.
  • Pacific was stifling in the defensive third from whistle to whistle, not allowing Manhattan a shot until the 21st minute.

Statistically Speaking
  • The Tigers controlled the match tempo throughout the first half, winning the battle in shots (6-1), shots on goal (3-1) and corners (5-2).
  • Pacific jumped out to a 3-0 advantage in shots (one on goal) in the first eight minutes of the match with two corners.
  • UOP bumped its shot average up from 12.2 after racking up 15 shots against Manhattan, including a season high nine on frame. The Tigers also took a season high seven corner kicks on Friday.
