LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The Pacific women's volleyball team split on the final day of the New Mexico State Borderland Invitational, defeating UTEP and falling to New Mexico, on Saturday.
With the nightcap victory over UTEP, Pacific improves to 3-3 on the season.
New Mexico State 3, Pacific 0
- The Tigers struggled offensively for the second-consecutive day, collecting 30 errors against New Mexico.
- Pacific totaled a match-high 12 kills, led by Allison Dennemann with four kills, in the opening set.
- Statistically speaking, the Tigers topped the Lobos in kills (31-26), assists (27-25) and digs (34-30). Riley Patterson led Pacific with eight kills, followed by Dennemann and Carissa Bradford, each with seven kills.
- Hanne De Schrijver dished out a team-best 12 assists.
- Defensively, Jadyn Tubbs was the only Tiger to finish with double-digit digs (14) and Kennedy Kaminsky totaled five blocks to bring her season total to 26.
Pacific 3, UTEP 2
Set 1
- Pacific was outstanding to open the match, hitting .389 (11-4-18).
- The Tigers jumped out to a quick 5-1 lead thanks to three UTEP hitting errors.
- UTEP came back within two points at 9-7, but would never surpass the Tigers through the remainder of the set.
Set 2
- Pacific found themselves down, 6-2 through the first eight serves.
- Consecutive kills by Kaminsky at 9-7 and 9-9 brought the Tigers back to even with the Miners.
- Following a service ace by Sedona Sherman at 18-16, UTEP went on to out-score the Tigers 7-1 to claim the set two victory.
Set 3
- Pacific did not trail UTEP by more than four points for the entire set.
- The Tigers took their only lead at 14-13, following an attack error by UTEP. The Miners immediately tied the game up at 14-14 and extended their lead to 16-14 after consecutive errors by Pacific.
- The Miners went on a 9-7 run to finish off the set, 25-21.
Set 4
- In a must-win set, the Tigers and Miners were tied four times before either team reached 10 points.
- Following a 9-9 tie, the Tigers rode a 6-0 run that gave them a 15-9 edge.
- The two teams matched point for points until 19-15, when the Miners won three straight points at 19-16, 19-17, and 19-18.
- The set continued to seesaw until the Tigers reached set point at 24-22. Tubbs secured the set win and forced the fifth set with a service ace.
Set 5
- Pacific continued with its momentum, going on a 5-1 run to open the final set.
- With the score tied up at 10-10, Pacific scored the next four points (14-10).
- Riley Patterson finished off the set with a kill at 15-11.
Notable Players
- Riley Patterson nearly matched her career high of 18 kills, after smashing 17 against UTEP. Carissa Bradford had 10 kills in the nightcap victory.
- Kaminsky was stellar and flawless against the Miners, hitting .643 (9-0-14).
- Dennemann led three Tigers with double-digit digs, collecting a total of 11. Tubbs and Gabby Leo each totaled 10 digs.
- Leo also finished just shy of her career-best mark in assists, dishing out 30 in Saturday's match against UTEP.
