LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The Pacific women's volleyball team fell to New Mexico State in straight-sets (25-22, 25-7, 25-18) to open the Aggie-hosted Borderland Invitational on Friday night.
Pacific falls to 2-2 on the season, while New Mexico State improves to 4-0.
New Mexico State 3, Pacific 0
Set 1
- After a 1-1 start, the Tigers went on a 3-1 run to take a quick, but slight lead.
- New Mexico State tied the game at 4-4 and from there it was a back-and-forth battle until the Tigers regained control with a 15-10 lead at the media timeout.
- Pacific held on to its lead until the Aggies went on a 6-2 run at 17-13 to knot the game up at 19-19.
- NMSU took the lead late, winning the next two points on a kill and a Pacific hitting error (21-19)
- Pacific came back within one point at 22-21 following a kill by Kennedy Kaminsky, but the Aggies would win four of the final five serves to claim the set one victory.
Set 2
- It was all New Mexico State in the second set, taking a very quick six-point lead, which led to the Tigers taking their first timeout.
- Following the break New Mexico State went on a 10-0 run that put the win out of reach for the Tigers (18-3).
- Pacific would only score four more points in the set.
Set 3
- Pacific did not have much momentum heading into the deciding set, quickly falling to a seven-point deficit (9-2).
- Following the 14-4 mark, Pacific began to creep up on the Aggies, but they matched up perfectly with the Tigers, both scoring six points over the next 12 serves.
- The Tigers attempted to make a late run, but they were unable to hold off a tough Aggie squad, eventually falling 25-18.

The Tigers will return to the Pan American Center in Las Cruces, N.M. tomorrow for their final two matches of the Borderland Invitational. Pacific will face New Mexico at 9:00 a.m. and UTEP at 3:00 p.m.
