DAVIS, Calif. – Pacific completed day two of the Aggie Classic in Davis with two more doubles wins and a singles win from
Akram El Sallaly.
In Case You Missed It:
- Tadiwa Chinamo and Akram El Sallaly opened the day with a narrow 8-7(1) win in the Doubles A quarterfinals before falling in the semis to Brett Brinkman and Daniel Landa of tournament host UC Davis.
- Nathan Hampton and Toi Kobayashi followed suit with a quarterfinal win of their own by a more comfortable margin of 8-3 over Philip Achenbach Justus Drees of Holy Names.
- El Sallaly also picked up a singles win in the Voluntary Singles Consolation, 6-3, 6-4 over Santa Clara's Nick Cmager.
In Their Words:
"We started really strong in doubles and inning and won of three matches to get into the semifinals. Tadiwa and Akram had some good looks in the semis but Santa Clara came up tough. As for singles, today was not a great performance by the Tigers as a whole. Akram played a really good match but the other matches struggled with tentativeness. There were many spots that needed to be taken advantage of and capitalize on. Everyone will play in consolation tomorrow and I look forward to seeing the team rebound and get after it." - Ryan Redondo, Pacific head coach
"I thought today was a productive day with some improvements from yesterday. Tadiwa and I started started doubles while having some emotions take over at times, but were still able to win. We managed it better in our next match, which made it more tactical with higher level tennis. In singles, I had a close match and was able to take better care of the moments that came up by playing smarter. I changed up the pace a few times to disturb the momentum before getting back to my game as Coach advised me." Akram El Sallaly
