Pacific Wins UNLV Invitational With Four-Set Victory Against Rebels

Allison Dennemann Tabbed Tournament MVP

LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Behind the muscle of sophomore's Allison Dennemann and Riley Patterson, the Pacific women's volleyball earned its fourth-consecutive victory with its four-set win (25-19, 27-25, 23-25, 25-29) over the Rebels of UNLV on Saturday afternoon. 

With the weekend sweep, the Tigers improve to 6-3 on the season, while the Rebels fall to 3-6.

 

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT

Set 1

  • UNLV was first to score, but the Tigers evened the score at 2-2. The two squads went on to knot the score at 7-7 and 8-8.
  • Following a final tie at 8-8, the Tigers went on a 7-3 run over the next 10 serves to take a 15-11 lead.
  • Pacific extended its lead to as many as eight points (20-13).
  • At a 24-16 deficit, UNLV won three straight points, but a kill by Patterson put the finishing touches on the 25-19 win. 
     

Set 2

  • The second set was much more competitive with no more than three points separating the two squads through the first 19 points.
  • UNLV battled back to tie the game at points 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, and took its first lead (17-16) on a Pacific ball-handling error.
  • The Rebels held the lead until consecutive kills by Dennemann and Patterson tied the game at 20-20. 
  • The score was tied three more times in the set, but a 25-25 Pacific pulled out the win after earning points on a UNLV service error (26-25) and a kill by Dennemann (27-25).
     

Set 3

  • Pacific struggled to maintain momentum in the third set, hitting well-below .100 as a team.
  • It was a back-and-forth effort by the Tigers and Rebels.
  • With a 14-12 lead, the Tigers allowed the Rebels to score five un-answered points to take their largest lead of the set (17-14).
  • The Tigers came within one point of the Rebels on seven more occasions, but were unable to gain an edge and eventually fell by a score of 25-23.
     

Set 4

  • The Tigers jumped out to a quick 6-2 lead thanks to kills by Dennemann (3), Kennedy Kaminsky, Carissa Bradford, and Sedona Sherman.
  • Pacific went on to extend its lead to 12-5 and held a comfortable lead until 18-13, when UNLV rode a 4-0 run to come back within one point (18-17).
  • UOP allowed the Rebels just two more points in the set and held on for the 25-19 win.

     

OVERALL

  • Dennemann broke her record for career kills twice on the weekend, setting a new mark at 21 kills against the Rebels. The New Palestine, Ind. native hit .325 on the afternoon with two service aces and eight digs.
  • Patterson also set a new career record for kills in a match, smashing 21. The Sonora, Calif. product hit a team-high .500 (21-1-40). Patterson also had a team-best 15 digs.
  • Kaminsky and Sherman combined for 11 kills from the middle. Kaminsky totaled six kill and Sherman totaled five kills.
  • Gabby Leo commanded the offense with 38 assists, while Hanne De Schrijver contributed 23 assists.

     

ALL-TOURNAMENT

  • Dennemann was tabbed the UNLV Invitational Most Valuable Player. Her weekend totals include 49 kills, 26 digs, and four service aces.
  • Kaminsky and Sherman were named to the All-Tournament team.
