This week marks the final of West Coast Conference regular-season play. Pacific will open WCC Championships play next week at The Orlean's in Las Vegas. Seedings and additional tournament information for the postseason event can be found at wccsports.com following Saturday's contests.

Last Time Out
Thursday night, in front of a crowd that neared capacity at the Alex G. Spanos Center, the Pacific men's basketball team hosted No. 1-ranked Gonzaga. Despite falling to the Bulldogs by significant margin (86-66), three Pacific players scored in double-figures -- Roberto Gallinat with 23 points, Khy Kabellis with 13 points, and Lafayette Dorsey with 10 points. As a team, the Tigers out-scored the Bulldogs from outside of the arc, going 12-for-24 from the three-point line. Anthony Townes led the Tigers defensive effort with nine rebounds. 

 

This Season Against Pepperdine
Pacific knocked down six three-pointers and outscored Pepperdine 19-7 in the 7:30 of regulation to defeat the Waves 66-59 in the two squads first meeting of the season. Lafayette Dorsey came off of the bench to lead the Tigers with 20 points, while also totaling team-highs of seven rebounds and four assists. Roberto Gallinat totaled 16 points on a 5-for-8 effort from the field. Junior guard Jahlil Tripp totaled 13 points, four rebounds, three assists, and one steal despite sitting out the final eight minutes of regulation.

 

The History

  • Pacific and Pepperdine meet for the 68th time on Saturday evening. The Tigers lead the all-time series, 36-31, after claiming a victory at home against the Waves earlier this season.
  • Pacific and Pepperdine are even at 6-6 since the Tigers rejoined the WCC. That record includes an 89-84 win at the WCC Tournament in Las Vegas on Mar. 2, 2017.
  • The Tigers are 1-4 in regular-season play at the Firestone Fieldhouse with their only win coming last season by a score of 81-72.

 

WCC All-Academic
Last week the West Coast Conference announced its 2018-19 All-Academic squad. Redshirt junior Khy Kabellis represented Pacific this year on the honorable mention.


WCC Player of the Week
The Tigers have had two WCC Player of the Week selections this season:

Ajare Sanni was named WCC Player of the Week on December 31, 2018 after shooting 50 percent (8-16) from the field, including a 60 percent (3-5) effort from beyond the arc, and 80 percent (4-5) from the free throw line for a team-leading 23 points in the Tigers win over UC Irvine on Saturday. His game totals included two steals, one assist, and one rebound.

Anthony Townes snagged conference weekly honors on December 17, 2018 following following two stellar performances that helped the Tigers to a 2-0 finish, with wins over Long Beach State (74-68) and Cal State Northridge (79-77). Townes averaged 19 points with 70.6 percent shooting from the field and 93.3 percent shooting from the free throw line. In addition, he averaged 7.5 rebounds.
