Tigers Look to Continue Hot Start at UCSB, CSU Bakersfield

STOCKTON, Calif. - Off to its second consecutive 5-1 start and defeating opponents by 20.8 points per game, the Pacific women's basketball team (5-1) is set to hit the road this weekend for games against UC Santa Barbara and CSU Bakersfield. The Tigers meet the Gauchos in Santa Barbara on Thursday, December 5 at 7:00 p.m. before heading north for a 1:00 p.m. matchup with the Roadrunners on December 7 at 1:00 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT:
  • Closing out the Tiger Turkey Tip-Off, Jessica Blakeslee tied a career high with five made three-pointers in the Tigers' 77-49 win over SMU on Saturday, Nov. 30. 
  • The win extended Pacific's win streak to four games and solidified the Tigers' second consecutive 5-1 start to the season. 
  • Valerie Higgins led the way against the Mustangs with 18 points on 8-of-12 shooting to go along with a season-high seven assists. The Preseason All-WCC selection poured in 18 points as well in the previous game against Indiana State, notching back-to-back season highs in points. 
  • Fellow Preseason-All WCC selection and Katrina McClain Award Watch List member Brooklyn McDavid went 4 of 6 from the floor against the Mustangs for 12 points with five rebounds. Overall, the Studio City native has scored in double figures in all five games so far this season.
SCOUTING THE GAUCHOS
  • UC Santa Barbara enters Thursday's matchup with a 4-4 record after a 96-65 win over Chicago State on Dec. 1. Additionally, they are 3-1 on their home floor this season. 
  • The Gauchos are shooting just 38.4 percent from the field this season, but are only allowing 62.9 points per contest. They also rank top-20 in the nation with 31.5 defensive rebounds per game. 
  • Danae Miller leads UCSB with 17.1 points per contest, followed by Ila Lane at 15.8. Lane also paces the Gauchos on the glass with 96 total rebounds, which translates to an average of 12.0 per outing.

SCOUTING THE ROADRUNNERS
  • CSU Bakersfield enters Saturday's matinee with a 5-3 record and on a three-game win streak after downing North Carolina Central 80-71 on Monday. 
  • The Roadrunners are dishing out 15.9 assists per contests this season, but are only scoring 68.9 points per game. Bakersfield is struggling from the free throw line and downtown this year, shooting 62.6 and 29.9 percent, respectively. 
  • Vanessa Austin and Jayden Eggleston share the team lead at 10.4 points per game this season, while Eggleston is pulling down 6.12 rebounds per contest to lead the team.
