STOCKTON, Calif. – The Pacific women's volleyball team secured a season split with Portland after defeating the Pilots, 3-1, on Saturday afternoon.
Pacific returns to .500 (13-13) on the season with a 5-9 record in conference play, while Portland falls to 11-13, 3-10 in the WCC.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT
- The Tigers hit .306 in the fourth set en route to a .217 percentage for the match.
1st set
- The score was tied at points 1, 5, and 8 through the first 16 serves. With a 9-8 Portland lead, Pacific scored four consecutive points to take its largest lead of the set.
- Portland answered right back with a four-point run to regain a one-point lead (13-12).
- The two squads battled back and forth through the next 13 serves, but following a final tie at 19-19, Pacific won on three straight serves to take a 22-19 lead. Carissa Bradford was to credit with kills at 20-19 and 22-19.
- Pacific and Portland matched point-for-point to close out the set.
2nd set
- It was another tight set with the the two teams knotting the score three times before either squad had scored six points.
- Following a 5-5 tie, the Tigers went on a 5-1 run that gave them a four-point lead (10-6).
- Portland would come back within two points of the Tigers on three more occasions, but with a 19-16 lead, Pacific won consecutive points to take its largest lead (21-15).
- The Pilots would have one final surge, going 6-2 over the next eight serves, but a Portland service error and kill by Bradford sealed the Tigers victory.
3rd set
- The Pilots hit a set-high .261 en route to a narrow 25-23 win.
- Pacific and Portland were tied 10 times before either squad was able to gain a lead largher than a two-points. Following a 14-14 tie, Portland won three straight points for a 17-14 edge. The Pilots extended their lead after following up with a 4-2 run (21-16).
- Pacific did not go quietly, outscoring the Pilots 7-3 to bring the score to 24-23.
- A Tiger service error gave Portland new life and forced a fourth set.
4th set
- It was all Tigers in the fourth set, allowing Portland to just six kills.
- Pacific opened the set with an 8-2 run.
- Portland would come back within three points (10-7), but would not come within less than four the remainder of the set.
- At 15-11, Pacific went on a 10-3 run en route to the match win.
STATISTICALLY SPEAKING
- Bradford recorded a new career mark with a team-high 15 kills. Bradford committed just four errors in 37 attempts for a .297 hitting percentage.
- Sedona Sherman hit a team-leading .429 hitting percentage. The Arizona native smashed 10 kills with just one error in 21 total swings.
- Four players — Gabby Leo (22), Jadyn Tubbs (21), Allison Dennemann (16), and Riley Patterson (14) — each recorded double-digit digs on the day. Leo also dished out 48 assists.
- As a team, Pacific edged Portland in points (72-56), kills (60-43), digs (91-71), assists (59-40), and service aces (5-4).
