Pacific Falls to Santa Clara, 3-1

STOCKTON, Calif. – The Pacific volleyball team fell to visiting Santa Clara, 3-1 (25-14, 19-25, 19-25, 25-27) at the Alex G. Spanos Center on Saturday afternoon. 

The Tigers are now 12-10 on the season with a 4-6 record in West Coast Conference play. The Broncos improve to 16-7, 6-4 against their WCC foes.

 

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT

1st Set

  • It was all Tigers in the first set. Pacific took advantage of two bad sets and an attack error, which eventually led to a 5-1 lead. 
  • Pacific never allowed the Broncos to come any closer than four points the remainder of the set. 
  • Following a kill by Carissa Bradford at 18-10, the Tigers went on a 7-4 run to close out the convincing 25-14 victory.
     

2nd Set

  • Pacific jumped out to a quick lead. Santa Clara would knot the game at 2-2, 5-5, 7-7 8-8, 10-10, and 11-11 before a kill by Broncos' Julia Sangiacomo gave SCU its first lead of the game (12-11). 
  • At 13-13, Santa Clara took the final lead en route to scoring on 10 of the next 16 serves. 
     

3rd Set

  • It was a tale of two halves, with Pacific holding the lead through the first 15 serves (8-7). After ties at 8-8 and 9-8 Santa Clara took control of the set until the final serve. 
  • Through the final stretch the Broncos won five-consecutive serves at 10-9 and at 18-14. 
  • Pacific won four of the final six points, but eventually fell by a set score of 25-19.
     

4th Set

  • There were six ties and three lead changes throughout with the final three ties coming at points 23, 24, and 25. 
  • With a 20-15 deficit, the Tigers scored on four of the next five serves to come back within two points (21-19). 
  • Following a Santa Clara Timeout, Patterson scored on an assist by Allison Dennemann to bring the Tigers within one point (21-20)
  • With a service error at 22-20 and an attack error at 23-22 by SCU, the Tigers knotted the game at 23-23. 
  • A kill by Dennemann put Pacific at set point (24-23), but a service error by Pacific at 25-26 gave the Broncos the match win.

     

HOT NUMBERS
2 - Gabby Leo, Dennemann, and Hanne De Schrijver each totaled two service aces.
15 - Riley Patterson recorded her 10th double-double of the season with 15 kills and 15 digs. 

 

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING

  • Pacific struggled offensively, hitting just .093 as a team, while the Broncos hit .218. The Tigers strongest performance was in set one, when they hit .290 (13-4-31).
  • Sedona Sherman hit a team-leading .222 after totaling six kill and committing just two errors in 18 total swings.
  • The Tigers held an edge in kills (55-39), assists (56-39), digs (79-6), service aces (8-5). Santa Clara out-blocked Pacific, 22-1.

     

UP NEXT
