STANFORD, Calif. – The Pacific men's tennis team overcame a slow start in both doubles and singles to place (9)
Philip Hjorth,
Akram El Sallaly and
Josef Southcombe in Saturday's Singles Round of 32 at the ITA Northwest Regionals at Stanford's Taube Family Tennis Stadium.
Hjorth won his first two matches in a tournament for the third of his three tournaments thus far in the 2019 fall campaign, while Southcombe advanced past the first day in his first tournament of the new season. El Sallaly found himself down a set in the final match of the night, but fought back for the epic 3-6, 7-6(4), 7-6(5) win to advance.
"I am really proud of all the guys today," Pacific head coach Ryan Redondo said. "They represented very well and got a lot of experience and growth. I loved the fight at the end from Akram and am excited to see the Tigers get better tomorrow."
