PORTLAND, Ore. – The Pacific women's volleyball team dropped its first five-set match this season after falling to Portland (25-23, 23-25, 25-17, 18-25, 15-13) on Thursday night at the Chiles Center.
Pacific falls to 10-7, 2-3 in West Coast Conference play, while Portland claimed its first conference victory (9-7, 1-4 WCC) of the season.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT
- Pacific played to its sixth five-set match of the season and its third five-set match in WCC play.
1st Set
- Pacific and Portland matched point-for-point through the first 14 servers (14-14).
- Portland went on a 5-0 run to take its largest lead of the set (12-7).
- The Tigers came back within one of the Pilots after an 8-5 lead that ended with three consecutive Portland hitting errors.
- Pacific would knot the set up at 18-18, 19-19, 20-20, and 23-23 before Portland scored the final two points on a Tiger service error and a kill by Pilots' Claire Forrest.
2nd Set
- In another tight set, Pacific pulled out the set victory by just two points.
- Opposite of the first set, the Tigers took a quick 4-1 lead to open the set and held at least a two-point lead until Portland was able to tie the set at 11-11 and eventually take its largest lead of 13-11. Following a kill by Kennedy Kaminsky at 10-7, Portland outscored the Tigers 6-1.
- Down the stretch the two squads were once again tied at points 18, 19, 20, and 23.
- Freshman Kaelyn Saler put the set away with a kill off a feed from Hanne De Schrijver.
3rd Set
- Portland took early control of the set and never relinquished its lead.
- The Pilots had two 5-0 runs before either team had 15 points, taking a 14-8 lead.
- Despite nearly matching point for point the remainder of the set, Pacific's deficit was too large and dropped the set, 25-17.
4th Set
- The Tigers answered back with a dominant win in the fourth set, defeating the Pilots 25-18.
- Pacific hit a match-high .364, totaling 14 kills and committing just two errors in 33 total swings. The Tigers also scored on four services aces.
5th Set
- Much like the rest of the match, the Tigers and Pilots battled it out to the final two points.
- Following a 3-3 tie to open the deciding set, Pacific went on a 6-2 run to take and 8-5 lead.
- After the court switch, Portland answered with a 7-1 run that gave it a two-point lead (12-9).
- Pacific would battle back within one point (14-13) following consecutive points scored on a Pilots attack error and a Pacific service ace.
- Portland won the match on a Pacific attack error.
STATISTICALLY SPEAKING
- Sedona Sherman led both teams with a .316 hitting percentage, totaling 8 kills and just two errors in 19 attempts.
- Riley Patterson and Allison Dennemann each contributed double-digit kills, Patterson with a team-leading 13 and Dennemann with 12 on the night. Each also recorded 10 digs.
- Jadyn Tubbs led in the back row with 14 kills, while Tiger setters Gabby Leo and De Schrijver each dished out 25 assists.
- Carissa Bradford came up big on defense, totaling a career-high six blocks (six assisted, one solo). Kaminsky had a team-high seven blocks on the night.
- As a team, Pacific topped Portland in kills (53-50), assists (52-47), aces (10-5), and blocks (12-11).

The Tigers will wrap up weekend play on Saturday afternoon when they face the Gonzaga Bulldogs at the Martin Centre in Spokane, Wash. The Bulldogs are coming off of a four-set home loss to Saint Mary's.
